OSIP Podcast #6: Talking with Ryan Richmond, writer and director of Money Matters

17 Jan

Throughout this process, filmmaker Ryan Richmond has been a total pleasure to work with. He’s one of our younger filmmakers, and has a lot to say about getting into the field and the creative process.

His film, Money Matters, was the only narrative film selected to tour this year. We were all impressed by the film’s unflinching look at growing up in a challenging urban environment. He got some fantastic performances out of the actors in the film, and I urge you all to check it out.

Ryan wrote, directed, and self-financed the film, and we recently sat down so I could ask him how it all came together. He kindly called in from California at a ridiculously early hour (thanks for being a trooper, Ryan!), and shared his thoughts on the heavy themes within his film, the challenges of casting, and his advice to aspiring filmmakers.
